The last major holdouts in the protest against Reddit’s API pricing relented, abandoning the so-called “John Oliver rules” which only allowed posts featuring the TV host. It's the official end of the battle. The Reddit protest is over, and Reddit won.

    I guess. I only go back for a couple of niche subreddits that will never make reddit any money. And I canceled my Premium subscription.

    So… they won, good for them I guess.

      This is me. Had premium since … well, since it launched. Going to donate the equivalent amount to my local Lemmy admins to help with hosting costs.

        Originally it was “Reddit Gold” – you could pay $30 a year to get all the benefits of Gold membership, without waiting for somebody to award you Gold.

        At some point they renamed it to Premium, but they didn’t raise the price for existing subscribers. I’ve got 13 years on Reddit & I’ve been paying for Gold/Premium since nearly the moment it was announced.
