If Fursergin could count more than a few numbers he’d be able to tell you his age. One through five were easy. After that it was sets of five. But once past five sets of five he couldn’t hold onto the amounts.

Fursergin didn’t survive because he was stronger than the hoards of other goblins he had encountered. Despite his problems with enumeration he survived because he was a little more clever than most. In any group he entered he increasingly found that he was the oldest one there.

Even in a culture where a little clever was useful but muscle and tenacity were essential it was clear that just being this old meant one should keep their guard up around Fursergin even if someone didn’t respect him.
