I thought this article was about his current rise, but this is referring to a stupid article that blames the anti-trumpers for trump’s original rise. It’s the fault of republicans and the people who voted for trump.
We need to get people to vote or we’ll have a 2016 repeat and I think that’s why we’re hearing so much about how trump could still win, etc. He could if we don’t vote.
But Brooks does not explain how exactly Democrats, liberals, or college-educated Americans—“we anti-Trumpers,” in his words—are responsible for the social and economic woes of Trump’s supporters. He disregards the good reasons why “we anti-Trumpers” have embraced a policy agenda that is kinder to, say, immigrants and trans people than has the opposition. And in a truly astounding omission, Brooks ignores a fact that threatens to derail his entire thesis: Trump and the GOP are fanatically committed to sustaining the systems of economic inequality and social immobility that Brooks blames for Trump’s rise. “We anti-Trumpers” are the ones backing policies that would mitigate it.
Meanwhile I’m lowkey worrying because most of the talk I’m hearing out of Dem circles is barely-warmed over Bernie-trashing. If that was a winning electoral strategy, Clinton would have won.
I’m hearing folks from the neoliberal center accusing the left of being nazis- there’s so much wrong there it makes my head hurt
Dems love to fearmonger over orange boogeyman, but then turn around and steal the nom from popular progressives on their way up, insisting instead on forcing a pro-corporate geriatric down our throats. Maybe another trump W wouldn’t be such a risk if Dems could stop doing their best to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory.
I can tell you why they picked Biden. He’s done so much better than I thought he would, I don’t agree with everything but he’s side stepped a lot of things that could have gone poorly.
He’s elderly and Americans love/need a father figure, especially after a failed coup.
He knows how to get things done and will even make shitty deals to do it. Unfortunately, that’s a good thing in the long run.
He didn’t get emotional or respond to trump’s bait at all. He just quietly dismantled everything trump has built up, including trump’s army of domestic terrorists and/or nazis.
Trump has actually been indicted and arrested in some cases for a small part of his criming.
I think he’s going under the radar as one of our best presidents. I’m guessing we’ll look back at it with fondness but for some reason no one is paying attention to how well he’s doing. I don’t like his border policies or that he kept that schmuck at the post office on, but from everything else I know about, he’s been great.
Sorry about the downvotes, but I agree with you. I like everything that Biden has done. But we need to be more progressive with economic policies and reigning in corporations. We need better government oversight on dark money in politics and I don’t see Biden doing that.
The climate crisis should be the absolute highest priority in our news and governments. We are at risk of entire ecosystems collapsing. People are just ignoring it. We’re actively on course towards apocalyptic conditions and our biggest concerns are “what about the businesses?”.
Yes, the climate catastrophe is a perfect example of the point I’m trying to make here. Manchin spends the first 2 years of Biden admin obstructing and providing the easy way out of delivering on every promise Biden made to woo progressives in the election. And what does Biden do? Rewards him by lifting all environmental regulations and legal hurdles on his pet project MVP natural gas pipeline, ramming it through neighboring states much to the detriment of the health and well being of the people and wildlife in the Appalachians. Why?! New pipelines are the last thing we should be investing in right now. Anybody who takes climate change seriously absolutely would not do this, but Biden does so and pats himself on the back for being some kind of master negotiator.
Biden gets propped up as some kind of great “deal maker,” but I view his deals as anything but great. He’s dangerous, because throughout his career he’s been incredibly eager to hand republicans everything they ask for and more in order to position himself as some kind of bipartisan deal maker. Ever since the 70s bipartisan has meant one thing and one thing alone - furthering neoliberalism and the corporate agenda. Biden built his career around this. Dems are too eager to rally around this fossil just because he isn’t the orange clown, and it is costing our people dearly.
Red Blooded Americans are those I see countering Trump. Most of his supporters are full of hate and rather than blame themselves for the mistakes they made they seek out scapegoats to pin the blame on. The problem is that these are universally white men and we are only a few years before they witness their preferred race become a minority. This rage is a last grasp before reality becomes too much to ignore. Their world is finished and they know it

The US needs an 80 year old ‘father figure’ because half it’s populace are 40 year old children. 54% of American adults read below a 6th grade comprehension level, that’s a lot of 12 year olds in adult bodies.
America has definitely been dumbed down while we have the world’s information at our fingertips. It’s wild to watch.
Hell, just look at how many people comment objectively wrong things when the answer was one Google search away, and it’s not just trolls.
Im happy with him just for the no surprises act, clean energy focused budget, and getting the irs to provide tax prep.

“Popular” progressives?
If they’re so popular then how do they keep losing elections?
Progressives make up about 15-20% of Democrats. That is why they don’t win. The might change in the future.
