There’s 300 million+ people in the US. While Football is extremely popular, and having a Super Bowl watching party is almost a holiday style event, not every one appreciates the sport.
As the day became more holiday like, they added a show at half-time which usually is a mega-music production in and of itself that many people want to watch.
Capitalism being capitalism, commercial spots during that time are expensive and in high demand, so companies started making hilarious commercials because of the extreme amount of viewers during that time. What this ends up being is kind of a day that has something for everyone, music, sports, comedy, companionship etc.
It’s weird if you just look at from top down view but in context and with a little history it’s actually a pretty nice not holiday
