Combined with the tattoo thing, this really speaks to him having been really deeply associated with hate for a long time.

They’re extremely far ahead in the polls and in fundraising. The Nazi tattoo didn’t bring him down and that’s about 9k times worse than this allegation.

And not just that but because of the tattoo thing, voters are going to be much less receptive to things like this. If they’re in for Platner they’re in for Platner. A bit more mudslinging just isn’t going to move the needle.

He’s leading Mills by 38%. That’s WELL into the range of insurmountable, Schumer/Mills, they blew their powder with the oppo already. If they had held it dry until maybe May/ April, it probably could have tanked Platners run, but that would ultimately have been a gift to Collins.

It’s not a nothing burger but it kinda is also a nothing burger.

At this point it’s Platners race to lose, and he’s not campaigning like he’s going to lose. He’s campaigning for a W and I think they will win.

Mills, just, you can tell their heart isn’t in it. I think corpo Dems are having a hard time adjusting to the new reality of being oppositional as a requirement to winning.

He passed off the tattoo as ignorance — and people bought it. With this one, he admits to being a longtime fan of a Nazi.

It’s looking very much like Platner is a Nazi himself, who is using the words of oppositionality to manipulate, rather than convey his actual positions. If elected, we’re going to end up with somebody far worse than Collins.

I really hope he doesn’t make it out of the primary.

Yeah you’ve made that clear for months.

It’s looking very much like Platner is a Nazi himself

I mean that’s just, obviously not true and a clear falsehood. He did have a tattoo that had white nationalist implications. He’s got an explanation that seems to have satisfied Maine voters. If you or I think it’s disqualifying (I don’t), it’s irrelevant because Maine voters clearly don’t seem to care.

He’s doubled up on Mills. His numbers are like, actually ridiculous. It’s very clear he’s going to win the race. So if Mills does have more oppo proving Platner is a double secret Nazi, bruh they really need to get it out there because at this point he’s run away with it.

My read of the current situation is that if national party or AIPAC, or anyone else came in to try and tip the scales in this one, the race goes to the Republican. I think Mainers really don’t like being told who they “should” be voting for, especially by the National party.

You can take Platners popularity in spite of the controversy as evidence for this. A Nazi tattoo coming out when you are like, mid launch? That should break most campaigns. But I think because there was so much finger wagging from centrists and corpo Dems, and also since the oppo was tied to Schumer’s endorsement, it actually backfired and contributed to buoying Platners support in that rocky time. Mainers just really don’t like being told who to vote for.

Mills should drop out if they want to have a political career moving forwards, because they’re getting clapped in a way that’s going to make it really difficult to run for further office with a loss as bad as this one is shaping up to be. She’s a waste of money at this point and a liability to corpo Dems. If you are Schumer you don’t want your endorsement to be seen as a curse going into mid terms.

Mills has been a fine governor but I really don’t want her representing the state on a national stage. I think Graham is a lot closer to the average working class Mainer and that’s a big part of why people cut him the slack they did.

Unfortunately, I think Collins is the only one doing actual oppo research, and she is likely to clean up in the general because of this. I don’t think the national party or anybody else is doing anything to move the needle.

What are you talking about? We know where the oppo came from, it was Schumer’s office. You are relying entirely on the fact that you don’t like Platner for your analysis, which is fine, but it’s a terrible basis of analysis.

You can’t confuse the way you want things to be with how they are if your going to be doing political analysis. I mean I suppose you can, and well, obviously plenty do it all the time. But their analysis is crap and doesn’t predict outcomes.

Platners winning. By a lot. Every time the national party has tried to helicopter in and dislodge Collins, it’s backfired. And that’s exactly what Mills is. She didn’t even want to run. She’s running at Schumer’s behest.

Naomi Klein is boosting Platner. It looks for all intents and purposes like a big chunk of the national party is behind him to me, even if not Schumer

I mean the progressive caucus clearly is. I’m not sure the relevance of Naomi Klein support.

However the corpo Dems, party leadership and the party apparatus Dems are clearly behind Mills. It was litterally Schumer who asked her to run.
