          .io is a ccTLD though and is subject to the whims of the British Indian Ocean Territory. They can, for any reason, remove domains. See what recently happened with Mali and .ml.

            Doubt they will. It’s used for way less illegal shit then .ml was. And, for most domain names, a .io is really fucking pricy (2x +)

              IIRC there’s an ongoing dispute between the British Indian Ocean Territory government and the British company that manages the .io zone. If the former wins the dispute there may well be changes.

            A similar thing happened to Notion, with their .so domain. The issue was then resolved, but the whole service went offline for a while
