      If you can demonstrate that someone (defendant) has been served, either with a witness or photo/video evidence, that person is legally required to appear at the appointed place and time even if they threw it in the trash without reading it. You are only required to present the summons.

      If they don’t, the judge will often rule in favor of the plantiff by default.

        I have multiple times been served papers for other people with the serving guy demanding all sorts of shit from me, on my own leased property, screaming about being an officer of the court. The guys that do this lie and fail and the courts allow them to, at least around here. The one threw the papers in the hallway, for someone I’d never heard of.
