So you want to replace one flavour of authoritarianism with another? The difference being that you’re in charge? Has definitely never been tried before. Nothing could possibly go wrong.

Correct. And we won’t evolve on time scales that are relevant to an individual or even our current historical time horizon. So we’ll have to work with the kind of people we have.

The social evolution is alive and well IMO. I come from a rather conservative background and while some of my community have dug their heels in, the vast majority are much more progressive than we were 20 years ago.

That’s not evolution in a biological sense. I’m not saying there can be no societal progress. It’s clearly happening and we need much more of it. But right now we’re also looking in a time of regression of societal progress and that’s by no means limited to the US.

evolution is not restricted to the origin of the species context fyi. Communism is an evolution of social democracy (or is it democratic socialism… i can remember rn).

If we’re going to change the power structure we need to socially evolve beyond the mentality that created the same power structure we’re replacing.

this is a very weak strawman… where did I say anything about me (or anyone) being in charge?

You would know all about weak strawmen hosing all over your dry clothes.

You’d damn well better have a plan for a new power structure if you plan to remove the current one, but you haven’t suggested any.

edit: And there’s no reason to wait to start protecting the vulnerable until anyone else is in charge—because you’re still going to need it after.
