Baseball Tape worked well for me, Lizard Tape specifically, super good for cheek weld. I tried a few types of Hockey Tape and Goon Tape, and none of 'em got quite got the sheer grippy action of Lizard Tape.

Haven’t gotten it muddy or terribly dirty yet, just some rain. Worked well and maintained grippy. Supposedly Lizard Tape is good for that.
