But casting her as Abby in Last of Us was obviously an overcorrection to the backlash from the Ellie casting.
Like, Abby in the game is a brick shithouse, you can tell she hasn’t just been a soldier in an apocalypse, she’d been bulking up to go on a suicide mission against what she believes is the biggest badass in America
I did some quick googling.
In the game Abby is around 6’2 (taller than almost all the men) and Ellie 5’5.
In real life their actresses are 5’3 and 5’2. They changed a 9 inch difference to a 1 inch difference…
As great of an actress as Dever is, as they say in the NBA, you can’t coach height. She’s just not the intimidating precense that Abby was in the game.
That being said: it’s a really disturbing insight into American culture that there was a huge backlash to Ellie’s casting, and all the incels who swore they just cared about accuracy never mention Abby’s casting, they were all 100% cool with that not matching the source…
