(For example, I just got a position where the primary duty is to support an information system I designed and built for them and I still had to do 3 rounds of interview)
We’ve only done multiple rounds of interviews for very impressive candidates that are already a big yes, where they’re being shown to progressively higher ranking staff as a “wow you gotta meet this person”
They were a technical, team interview and management interview, with another team scheduled after that. Only person who was open about feeling it was a waste of time was the director in the third interview, who stopped it in the middle of an intermitable HR ramble and offered me the job (presumably so she wouldn’t have to keep wasting her time sitting thru them).
It was extra ridiculous since the position was explicitly written for me and I am the only person alive who is qualified (given I built the system…), and they still put everyone through all that bullshit process-wank for what was an inevitable outcome. Ugh.
Oh yeah, the last person in the position karked it (lead dev on their side) and only then did they notice they hadn’t bus-proofed any of their data intake/processing/warehousing. But credit where it’s due, they aren’t an AI-heavy shop and they’re being pretty attentive about fixing it after that wakeup call. Upside contractor wages, downside ugh it’s so fucking corporate
Welcome to tech. It’s pretty fucking ridiculous.

This is a big tech company
What were the three rounds for? Did the interviewers see it as a farce?

What a shit show, hope you get well compensated for being the only qualified person alive

A lot of people not being well compensated for corporate, I’d take that as a win haha
