I worked with a guy who was really cheap. One day we talked in a group about video games, and he only mentioned that ge doesn’t play video games. Some time later, he talked about a mobile game he was playing, pretty sure it was clash of clans. I saud i don’t know anything about the game, otger than people pay a lot of money on it. He talked about it and was pretty enthusiastic. He wasn’t a nice person to talk to at all, so this was probably the longest conversion we ever had. He talked about his spending habits and said somethimg like: “i wanted the negro army early, so he spend more money than usual.” I asked what’s more than usual? He said like 800 bucks. Kept asking: juat this month? He kinda realised how shocked i was and said: if you think that’s a lot, you have no idea how much my girlfriend spends on candy crush every month.

The mobile game industry makes billions evry year per brainrot game from suckers, it’s insane.

Probably total, what they call in the industry customer lifetime value. And that’s the average of course. The 95th percentile will spend monthly salaries on free to play games.

Love and Deepsace, which is a waifu/husbando rpg, does about 30-40 million a month.

The production studio King, Candy Crush’s studio, reports 80-100 million monthly.

One of my coworkers and his wife plays a somewhat old-school p2w chibi RPG, and in the last 14 months spent 28k. When he told me i did not believe him and this motherfucker pulled up his actual god damn receipts.

I was stunned… for what its worth he is pretty fucking stupid as well.

At what point does gamblers anonymous split off to form mobile gamers anonymous. That’s insane. My mind doesn’t reconcile it, because I’d never spend a dime. And I make sure to put it in my kids heads, starting with Roblox, that we will not spend a dime to cheat at some stupid game. And so now they agree it’s cheating, so I feel like I’ve done something.

I seriously wonder how dumb people like that are able to apparently get such high-paying jobs that they can afford all this gambling?

The thing about addictions is that they scale to fit your lifestyle until they kind of suddenly don’t. Degenerate gamblers are the addicts that make me the saddest. I worked at a casino for a while and lived in a gambling focused town. Seeing the way the casinos would take advantage of these people and then blame the addict for going too far was sickening. These places are designed to separate whales from money not for casual gaming no matter what the commercials say. The biggest spenders (I could see money in vs money played) were not often rich people.
