A guy being an asshole on the internet is not a good reason to compromise his personal safety. His handle should be blacklisted on the internet, but there’s no reason to remove his ability to change his handle and create a better name for himself. The great power of the internet is freedom to reinvent yourself. To rehabilitate yourself. To become better than you were yesterday. Take that away from people, and they stay awful.
So there is a problem we need to solve… Does the internet matter?
Like seriously, we like to say that the internet is a place for freedom and not to be taken seriously but also that the internet is a mandatory utility like water and electricity. And it has reap world impact.
So we need a way to have rules and punishment for behavior if it matters that isnt ignorable. Or we need to accept that the 2 worlds are tied together.
I think it is a bit like the real world. If there isnt a lot of eyes on you and no enforcement in your area you can get away with lots of stuff but doing stuff that draws attention should invite the ability for group intervention. But yeah people are dangerous and dumb even the ones on the “good” side often use it as an excuse to do what they want.
Calling for doxing is similar to calling for the most serious fix for ban evasion. Both link real life identities to accounts.
As the internet increases in its centrality to political and social discourse, and as rampant manipulation of it by tools like automation and algorithms and LLMs grows ever more common, we will see louder and louder calls for the bringing in of the accountability people have in the real world in their local communities.
I’m pretty sure many in power or who are seeking power understand this trend, and look to use it to usher in more power for themselves. This sucks. And it has an unfortunate side effect of drowning out legitimate discourse on the problems that anonymity and ban evasion are causing in our primary communication medium.
The internet isn’t another place. It’s not divorced from reality. It’s just a communication medium for humans in the real world.
That about sums it up. It is a communication tool that for some reason (corporations and power) been denied that and turned into a media machine instead and told that is what it always was.
But yeah… People like being able to say stuff without accountability but unfortunately it can’t be nothing but that for a community to thrive.
People down voting this have never lived a single day off the internet in their lives. Shit bags like this get fucking called out and isolated in an actual functional community.
If you want to put yourself in a position of power you lose the right to hide behind the screen. Fuck off with protecting fucktards who abuse others.
What an idiot immature muppet. Can he be doxed? People like this needs to be exposed and made fun of.

Dealing with humanity is rough.

You mean like getting the capitalist state to police people’s lives and throw them in prison? No thanks, I prefer anarchy.

The problem is that tons of communities are run by organizations using a user account (or several) that isn’t actually tied to an individual.
The whole thing is setup perfectly for revenue. The site administration is as transparent as a slab of granite and really only answers to the feds.
