I just saw this sandhill crane feeding puppet last night! Rehabbers are so creative 😄

Genius! Thanks for sharing that. (I mean for real, no sarcasm.)

        Of course!

The forceps work so perfectly, I was so thrilled when I saw it. I’m a rehab volunteer, so this kind of thing is my jam. I’m glad you enjoyed it too!

I only learned about sandhill cranes a few months ago when I was visiting another rehab center and they are such cool birds. I like their vestigial toes, that was so unique to learn about.

And, here on the Gulf, they have no fear! They just peck around. When I was taking photos trying not to annoy them, one walked right up to my wife and kind of looked around to see if she had food. (We know not to.)

It’s great for seeing them up close but I feel like a little fear of humans might be healthier for them in the long run.

Yeah, we’re not really great for most species, as a whole. 😔

Wild animals that get used to people either get hurt or become a nuisance and then get hurt.

That’s so cool! I’m glad it’s effective because it looks like fun.

It looks easier to use than some of these contraptions I see.

The local college puppetry club made us some for the owls, and they look cool in a Labyrinth kinda way, but my first thought was how do we keep this clean while handling mouse chunks while half blind under a hood?

Ha, that’s awesome. Yeah it does look like it would get messy feeding.
