Counting first month rent as a “moving cost” is disingenuous IMO. That money isnt for moving but for paying for the place for a month. Now needing the captial to provide first and last, thats defintely a factor.
I’ve moved a dozen times because of rent increases and all these cost are BS. Maybe a $60 application fee and $150 to rent a Uhaul for the day. Before I had Uhaul money, I moved an entire apartment twice in a friends pickup truck (multiple trips). Security deposits suck, but I have always gotten 100% of my security deposit back by cleaning better than I found it, and having move-in and move-out pictures. I mean sometimes you do have to work to save money, but it is not a lost cause.
When i moved from my apartment to my house, i lined up the closing date to only have 2 weeks of overlap with my rent rather than a full month. I was able to use my work van to do multiple trips over the evenings to move my stuff and prep the house. This let me not take any time off work while minimizing double payments for housing.
I have friends where every time they move they get all their stuff out on their last day into a uhaul, sleep in the truck or motel, and move into their new place the next day so they never have to double up a rent payment. If the unit you’re moving to is empty most landlords will let you get your stuff there a few days earlier.
What are you talking about. OP is counting the cost of movers, but he can’t get a Uhaul? The point is the numbers to move are complete BS outrage bait. You are taking the bait.
On top of that my friend with a truck I had met 6 months earlier at work, because I was in a brand new city. People have agency to solve their own problems sometimes. Moving is 1000% one of them.
Glad you find it interesting??? Yeah, a mattress and a dresser on a sedan on a highway don’t exactly work. So, no in my situation I could not imagine. Hope your interest is again peaked.

I think that’s the point they’re making here.
