There should be a max size for steam. I dont remember what it was but I know I easily reached it when I played Skyrim. But Steam didnt warn me so I almost lost most of my saves when I switched computers. Maybe thats what happening here too? Anyway, I have turned off cloud saves and rely on my file history backup to not have to deal with a full steam sync.
My steam cloud for baldur’s gate 3 shows 2.51 GB/ 16.12 GB available
That’s 3 character saves and one of those characters is multiplayer (so more custom characters)

From what I could tell is each company has a set limit so they all are different.
Maybe Baldur’s Gate 3 was such a big hit for Steam they may be giving the game a lot of save space.
