I’m not trying to be antagonistic but I’m sorry you have such a black and white view on this.
When is alcohol not a luxury? You don’t need it to live.
In fact, I’d argue a society devoid of alcohol (with no knowledge of it) would probably be safer and happier.
If you’re living a bare bones existence it’s the little things in life that make it bearable.
Maybe alcohol is why some people are living in a bare bones existence.
Getting drunk to ignore your misery isn’t going to improve things.
