Great Lakes region, USA. July 2026.

Since spring I’ve been trying to get a marsh wren. They have such a unique call, but always stay hidden in the reeds. I’m not a fan of playback, but I admit I used it to coax this one out.

    This is fantastic info, thanks for taking the time to share all the details 🙂 I’m probably gonna start looking into the 100-400mm mkii model as you suggested. Fwiw I’ve been very happy with the 40-150mm 2.8 if looking for something in that range (though they aren’t cheap either, likely in the $7-800 range).

      Thanks. I post on Lemmy quite often and exclusively, so you’ll definitely see more of my stuff. I’ve heard good things about that 40-150mm. I’m really looking for a lens in the ultra wide range. I have the 12-50mm EZ kit lens, but its not all that sharp and is pretty slow.
