You can build a Perchance generator with the AI helper — no coding experience needed I’ve been using the built-in AI helper in the Perchance editor, and I wanted to share how approachable it’s made building generators from scratch. I have a fairly broad understanding of coding, but nowhere near enough knowledge or skills to do everything necessary to create a generator; yet with the AI Helper, I’ve been able to get a working generator (https://perchance.org/setting-description-image-generator) up and running in a single chat session. After that, a few simple tests and tweaks, and even additions of new ideas, polish it up–again, using the AI Helper, never looking at the actual code.

What the AI helper actually is When you’re in the Perchance editor, there’s an AI assistant you can chat with right alongside your code. You describe what you want in plain English, and it edits your main.pjs and index.html files directly. You watch the live preview update as it works. If something’s off, you just tell it — “make the buttons bigger,” “the text isn’t centered,” “add a save button” — and it adjusts.

You never have to touch the code yourself if you don’t want to. But you can look at what it wrote and learn from it, which is a nice bonus.

How a typical session goes You describe the idea. Literally just a sentence or two. “I want a random tavern-name generator with a fantasy feel” or “I want a simple clicker game where you pet a cat and it purrs.” That’s enough.

It scaffolds the thing. The AI writes the lists, the HTML, the styling, the interactivity — whatever’s needed — and reloads the preview. Within a few seconds you usually have something working on screen.

You iterate in plain English. This is the part that feels magical. Instead of debugging syntax or hunting through docs, you just say things like:

“Can the names sometimes have two adjectives?” “Add a copy button under the result.” “The colors are too dark, make it warmer.” “Now make it so you can lock individual words so they don’t reroll.” Each request is a small natural-language sentence, and the AI applies it and shows you the result.

You ship it. When you’re happy, you save and publish like any other generator.

Things I’ve found that work well Be specific about the vibe. “A cozy generator” vs. “a sleek dark-mode tool” leads to very different results. A sentence about the feel goes a long way. Ask for one change at a time. Big multi-part requests can sometimes get jumbled. A short, focused request almost always lands. It’s fine to not know the “right” terminology. You don’t need to say “add a MutationObserver” — “make the new results fade in” works. If something breaks, just say so. “The preview is blank” or “the button doesn’t do anything” is enough for the AI to investigate and fix it. It can actually inspect the running page. You can ask it to explain things. If you’re curious what a chunk of code does, just ask. It’s a decent way to pick up concepts over time. What surprised me I expected to need to at least understand the structure of a Perchance generator before I could build one. You don’t, really — the AI handles the structure, and you handle the direction. It feels more like art-directing a very fast, very literal collaborator than programming.

The other thing that surprised me is how far plain English gets you. I’ve asked for things I was sure would be “too complicated” — saving state between visits, image generation, streaming text output — and the AI just… wired them up, using the built-in Perchance plugins. It turns out a lot of “advanced” features are one import line and a couple function calls, and the AI knows which ones.

Give it a try Open a fresh generator, open the AI chat, and just describe something you wish existed. Even if your idea feels small or silly, try it. Worst case you spend five minutes and learn something; best case you end up with a generator you can share.

If you’ve already used the AI helper, I’d love to hear what you built and any prompting tips you’ve picked up.

(The AI Helper actually wrote this post! I just copied it, tweaked it, and posted it.)

Thanks to anyone and everyone involved in setting up this site, and especially the AI Helper tool!

You called me a “low IQ baiter” for sharing an observation about the forum ratings that you don’t like. I think it’s bullying, personally.

Rule 2 of the forum Be kind and friendly. Please be kind to others on this community (and also in general)

Yes, I am calling you a low IQ baiter after you accused me of being a liar despite an insurmountable amount of evidence provided + given the seriousness of the topic, and for fabricating nannycock on how I’m apparently devising a plan to keep my post afloat 🫩
