Throw the book at them. This plus the stupid political banner in the semi-final, plus their general dirtiness throughout the tournament… It’s a huge blemish on the game. Fines won’t do shit. Ban them from the next world cup.
I really don’t understand any of the dirty claims. They play similar to other teams and physicality plays into that. But for other teams it’s deemed physical not dirty? I watched all knockout games and a majority of group stages. Their play is not significantly different from others in that regard, yet they get all the hate. FIFA constantly reviews behavior off the pitch and issues sanctions if things were missed but we’ve seen nothing of the sort for most teams (including Argentina).
To me it doesn’t make sense unless you apply some kind of eurocentric filter to the criticism. At the risk of being inflammatory I perceive an air of anti-latin american sentiment in general.
