Many lessons were learned today:
- Scotch tape can only be separated from partly-dry nail polish with great difficulty
- Masking tape will not stick reliably to partly-dry nail polish
- Waiting 2-3 hours between each coat is both annoying and extremely inconvenient, and also not long enough
- Ballpoint pen ink is very hard to remove from a cuticle while keeping the polish intact
That said, I’m pretty happy with the results even though I don’t think I’d do this regularly :3

Beautiful job, definitely better than my first attempt at striped nails (in which I also learned all of your listed “lessons” about tape lol). Curious about the ball-ppint pen thing though, I’ve never used a ball-point pen for anything nail-related
thanks :3
i used a flexible tape measure and a pen to draw evenly spaced marker dots on my skin along the base of the nail, which i used as a guide for where to place the tape (i initially tried to eyeball it, but maintaining a consistent spacing while also keeping the tape lines parallel proved too difficult after the first line). a little bit of pen overshot onto the cuticle and then got permanently sealed under a very generous layer of top coat, you can kinda see it in the photo if you zoom in.
