Agreed, this is definitely what happened. There is probably also a sense of being able to do anything you like since your boss is rich.
Not just a sense, a very real ability. This might mean they can’t captain a ship anymore, but unlikely to see any real punishment.

The captain is not the rich guy here. These super yachts tend to get captains near the end of their career who know the deal. They get nice paychecks to do shit like this and then take the fall if needed, that is the loophole.
He captains one of the most important yachts in the world and you think he’s not “the rich guy”? He’s not as rich as his boss (no one is) but he doesn’t live by the same rules as you and me, and I’d bet you he’s not done captaining ships over this, unless he wants to be
