Yes, and as funny as it was to see songs or games run through google translate twenty times and then brought back to English, those translators were indeed getting better with time. We don’t need LLMs for anything, yet people keep reaching for ways to use them that they can justify, to themselves or others.
Modern translators are LLMs. Have been since before 2021.
