I was taught to believe that the United States was the best country in the world, that it had never lost a war, and that it would always do what’s right, that capitalism was ethical, that socialism was bad, that the wealthy were good people, that the homeless were bad, that drug use was a sign that a person was a bad person instead of that they were struggling, and that marijuana was a gateway drug. Ohh boy, was I in for a rude awakening!
