i used to scoff at people who eat foods that are marketed as tasting like meat. i’ve since let pragmatism win out. if it helps you reduce your meat consumption, that’s really all that matters.

how does the community feel about these products? any brands to avoid, or try?

Not vegan but working on reducing meat intake.

All fake meats I’ve tried are ultraprocessed disappointments. Things like bean burger (mimics shape but not flavour) are generally good. Would rather cock just vegetarian recipes.

    YMMV

That’s it. Once you avoid meat for a while, the greasy texture is disgusting, you don’t want fake meat. None of that processed fake meat is healthy to eat.

Why do people with your preferences sometimes seem to assume everybody has the same preferences?

You don’t know what I want and maybe something that grosses you out I like.

It is a common comment though, with people that have remoed meat from their diet for a time period.

The longer I haven’t had meat the more the smell and grease gross me out. Like when a person not quite understanding vegetarian or vegan diet slips in refried beens with lard… just horrible.

That’s fair, though it’s also possible that they’ve already taste-tested many or most products over time and found what was stated was overall the (personal) outcome. Sometimes people post things to try to save others the expensive journey of trying it all, but we all have different taste buds and one can always fill their boots.

I personally found some vegetarian (even though I’m not vegetarian) cookbooks quite helpful, as I’m not a fan of the pre-prepared stuff for the same reasons, the processed additives didn’t taste good. That’s just my experience tho.
