    They are probably doing ML-based gait analysis to ID obscured faces. Trivial to then link it to a credit card, then identity at checkout.

      My understanding of current gait analysis tech is that it isn’t commercially ready without special equipment (like floor sensors). Do you have links to more recent info?

        Yeah I guess you’re right after a search on Google Scholar. Without LIDAR or other independent sensors, even modern ML approaches don’t tend to perform reliably.

        Thanks for prompting me to look this up. Here’s hoping it never improves.
