Pickled all my garden beans, was gonna save some by freezing for a family dinner, but the recipe I used called for 1.5lbs, and well I had exactly 700grams, so I used them all.
I mostly followed this recipe, with some modifications, that I got from another post earlier this week.
I doubled the sugar, and put 4 cloves in each jar instead of 2 for all. I don’t like vinegar that much, so hopefully these are more dilly and garlic.
I’ll see how they turned out in a week!

My sister got a decent one from Costco for 3k, and that’s about what I was eyeing for a decent one on sale on Amazon, gas actuated temp ceiling vent even!
I’m a red seal carpenter, so designing and building one isn’t out of the cards, just a matter of time and convenience sometimes. Well and costs, it’s easier to go buy a couple hundred dollars of lumber a dozen times than to drop 3k as well.
Kids and animal obligations don’t allow much else other than a few hours putzing, so it’s great I can get a little hard yard work done.
No worries, it’s always interesting knowing about this stuff, and than finding out later it’s all related. I made some post complaining about a chinook, and someone complained blaming me for the Alberta clippers. Everyone learned something haha.
Oh wow, functional vents and all huh? Thats really nice. I looked into those and yah they didn’t seem worth the effort to fiddle with but if they came with the green house. Hummm lol. Yah this is the one i picked up recently from wayfair, problem is it trapped too much heat and i had to cut holes in the roof. It was still cheaper than trying to build out of wood and polycarbonate and or glass when i priced it out. The latter though might last longer lol 😂 time is also important too, but if you have lots of time yah i might of gone a different way. Grower’s Haven Polycarbonate Greenhouse with Clear Panels- 6 FT Wall Height Outdoor Aluminum Greenhouses with 2 Vents, Double Doors with Hook, Walk-in Greenhouse for Backyard Garden By AMERLIFE.
Haha oh my, that makes sense. That’s what a 12’x16’?
One that was on sale during the summer was This one, is only a 11’x7’.
I could get that and cover the whole current garden beds though….
Anything larger than 10x10 needs permits here, so multiple small ones are better. Gotta be under 100sqft
Yah 12’x16’ sounds right, its large and has my veggie raised beds in it. I have an asparagus crop i’ve grown from seed that’ll be hitting the three year mark this winter, so excited for that :). I have a 8’x14’ as well that has my citrus trees in it. After 3-4 years they have held up well. Yah that is a nice looking greenhouse, but wouldn’t you get a lot of mold in there below the half wood wall where the sun doesn’t shine in?
Yah lots to think about when getting one. I added sprinklers in to mine tied to the well so watering could be automated. Its been a lot of fun :)
Our city is INCREDIBLY dry, but yeah that’s all stuff I need to educate myself on if I design one. We are technically a desertish climate.
Pallisars triangle I can see you thinking about the concern, coastal Vancouver, yeah I would think it would an issue if I lived there for example. They have different building cladding methods because of the constant rain and moisture.
Yah desert is an understatement. Wow. Is that where the movie Dune was filmed? 😂
It’s really deceptive, we just don’t get a lot of rain, but we’re based right off the river. In the picture below is Fish Creek Provincial Park, goes through the middle of the city. There’s one of the two rivers the city was built on, and you can see the houses of the city in the backside.
Oh, and a bonus picture from a bike ride, it looks like the forest moon Endor in places too
Oh wow, gorgeous, yah i can see the appeal as to why you would want to live there. Yah we have the opposite of any of that where I live, but we do have gorgeous crystal clear Gulf waters and nice sandy beaches.
@SchmidtGenetics @BuckFutter I’m In Bruce Mines, Ontario. From Toronto. So this drought thing is new to me. Will you share the best drought-tolerant plants? Especially natives? Or do you have a page somewhere else?
A lot of cities in Canada have great Resource pages for stuff like this it’s all deepening on you local area. And even microclimates can affect it.
Even Fish creek park has one, although it’s not much. Can atleast look up the plants with the names though.
