Are we assuming the Wendigo just wants to trade recipes or something?

The text in the image seems to strongly indicate the person was looking for a Wendigo, for sex. It seems the Wendigo had been minding it’s own business until the weird pervert arrived.

Oh interesting, I admit I had not considered that.

It’s not really your fault, just an example of unconscious bias racism. You’re conditioned to assume the Wendigo is the scary monster and the human the innocent victim.

Wendigo (/ˈwɛndɪɡoʊ/) is a mythological creature or evil spirit originating from Algonquian folklore. The concept of the wendigo has been widely used in literature and other works of art, such as social commentary and horror fiction.

Wendigo are evil. It’s not racism to assume the creature is evil if it’s canonically evil according to the indigenous culture that created it 😅 There can be media that reworks the idea, but it’s literally an evil spirit with ravenous hunger that eats humans

I’ve seen old writings that say much the same about black people. Just because it’s written down something is evil doesn’t make that true. I haven’t met many Wendigos, so I reserve my right to judge them until I do.

I’d see a human searching for Wendigos to rape and upon not finding a handy orifice carving one with a hunting knife to stick his dick in as being a clear and obvious evil. I have met humans like that. I’m very willing to judge them.

That’s fine regarding paragraph 2, but its gross to tell an indigenous culture the evil spirit from their folklore actually isnt evil and that saying so is racist. Doing so as if thats actually a progressive take is particularly gross. Comparing said evil spirit to black people is also gross, that is an obviously faulty comparison.

You are not the author of their culture. They are. You can imagine this is a non canonical exploration of the idea of a wendigo just like the people who imagine fucking one, but it’s an evil creature. It is their folklore that they have a ravenous hunger for human beings, and are explicitly evil.

Claiming to have the authority to negate a culture’s own voice on aspects of their culture is a deeply disrespectful thing to do, please don’t.

You seem to be the sort of person who screams at others for cultural appropriation when all you know is the person’s skin color and have no knowledge of the culture in question.

That is absolutely rich given the things you have said in this thread.

I do my best to politely correct people for cultural appropriation if I know the culture well enough to know its harmful or if I have explicitly learned from that group of people that it is harmful, because it is important not to center yourself in other people’s struggle.

You know, like saying that an evil spirit from a given culture’s folklore is not evil because its convenient to your position and that claiming as much is just like racism even though its not even a little bit like racism.

It’s extremely difficult to conclusively prove a thing doesn’t exist. The evil humans we know exist.
