As for construction zones no one signals when they cross lines here when there is an obvious right of way. You are right that it can sometimes solve the issue, especially with cyclists and the like, but I still find the feature obnoxious.
Where I live you are meant to indicate in such scenarios and then the lane assist will not complain.
