Hungary has described Russia as a “threat to Europe and the global order” in guidelines for its delegation attending the UN General Assembly next month, Der Spiegel reported on Aug. 26.
The move marks a dramatic shift in Hungary’s stance since Prime Minister Peter Magyar defeated the Russia-friendly Viktor Orban in elections earlier this year.
“Hungary condemns Russian military aggression and fully supports Ukraine’s sovereignty and territorial integrity within its internationally recognized borders,” the document states.
“Russia’s behavior poses a threat to Hungary, Europe, and the global order,” it adds.

They are a kind of blueprint we could follow.
Has anyone from the prior regime actually been punished? I’m not talking about committees and investigations.

Some people who were big but not the biggest got arrested, one of the top dudes tried to revolving door himself into a Chinese corp but that got torpedoed by the new gov.
There are cases running and the Office for the Protection and Reclamation of National Wealth got established a few weeks ago.
It’s moving forward I guess. You can’t really break out the guillotines because the EU does not like that.
Last I checked there was a bit of a hullabaloo about investigations taking at least 6 years before anything meaningful could be done, even for the big guns. Not sure how true that is, or if there’s a possibility of them waiting out investigations in custody.

I guess we’ll see what happens, I think they backtracked because the new head of the office said that it’s the courts that will take 6 years, and then the government jumped in proposing court reform and accelerating cases.
I’m kind of hopeful but also checked out. Let’s see where we are in 2 years at the municipal and EP elections.
I personally don’t really like our EU representation (as you might have seen from my posts on the other site) but IDK who else to vote for.
The unpleasant part of justice is that due process takes time, scaling with severity and quantity of accusations and also applies to people that are, by civil accounts, obviously guilty. If we decide who it applies to, we already open the door to injustice.
For a very visible example, that’s exactly what’s happening with ICE and with Germany’s deportations recently, probably other places too that I’m not so keenly aware of, by letting them skip due process: justice is being applied unfairly. I’m sure we’re all aware of more cases.
That means that even obvious criminals require that lengthy process, and the more shit they’re accused of, the more shit has to be proven. So we sit and wait and hope that, eventually, a thoroughly assembled, heavy and solid book is thrown at them.
I hope Bulgaria follows suit. Always on the wrong side of history I swear.
