I think most left leaning folks wouldn’t remotely compromise on their ideals, so they’re not going to water down their views, they’re just going to be up front about it because fuck giving an inch to the right, whereas the right are far more willing to compromise on their “deeply held beliefs”.
It’s less that they’re willing to compromise, and more that they know a lot of their beliefs are abhorrent to the general population, but they still hold them. So they have to hide their true feelings because they know that people would reject them if they express those beliefs.
