Apple today released iOS 27 and iPadOS 27, the newest operating system updates for the iPhone and iPad. The software is available for free on all compatible devices, and can be downloaded over the air by going to Settings > General > Software Update. It can take several minutes for the updates to propagate to all users due to high demand on launch day. iOS 27 can be installed on all iPhones that run iOS 26, which includes the iPhone SE 2 and the iPhone 11 series and later.
And as someone who’s been in the beta since day one, the new Siri is much ado about nothing. Influencers are singing its praises, but that’s what they’re paid to do. It’s still dead last in the AI race. It still doesn’t understand basic context. It’s actually kind of annoying, Spotlight used to search the web, now it just asks Siri, and if you disable this, you also lose CarPlay. So I’ve stuck Safari on my dock and I just go there to search the web.
I dunno, I’d say the new Siri is the biggest feature - it certainly accounts for the majority of the advertised changes.
Personally I’m more interested in the across-the-board performance improvements. Sometimes updates are boring but necessary.
