I hate most Hollywood movies, especially super hero stuff.
But shouldn’t you judge people on who they are, rather than the shows/media they enjoy? He’s clearly been nice/fun enough for her to go back to his place… Maybe she needs to be less judgemental on the small stuff.
“You like media/stuff I don’t like” probably isn’t a good reason to get out of there. Plenty of shitty people have good taste, plenty of good people have bad or generic taste.
I think this is not about enjoying comic book movies, instead it is about idolizing anti-heroes. If this comic showed a third poster I would expect to see Walter White, not Spiderman.
People who look up to anti-heroes tend to rank low in morality, empathy, and trustworthiness. It’s a red flag.
True. But also: Plenty of people with Red Flag personality traits/behaviours/tendencies/outspoken thoughts can be charming, smart, funny (other desirable qualities) within the first few days or even weeks. After which their ‘true colours’ are revealed. I think this is what this comic is trying to illustrate.
Edit to add: it’s not just about the media. It’s the villains that are represented and represent very specific ideals.
I don’t think so. I think most people would have difficulty claiming they actually felt particularly warm or particularly liked their 50th on that list.
By that point it would probably just be “shows I don’t think are badly made”. But also, different shows can mean different things to different people. That’s Stuart Hall’s encoding, decoding model of media consumption… and like Anita Saarkesian says: “It’s both possible, and even necessary, to simultaneously enjoy media while also being critical of its more problematic or pernicious aspects.”
So I think a lot of media theory disagrees with you… and a lot of the time people only “like” media because of the age they were when it was released, or what was going on in their lives when they watched it.
I think you underestimate the sheer volume of media we consume. I could probably name 20 of just kids movies that I loved and would recommend to anyone who hasn’t seen them. A big harry potter fan would be at like 15 already without including games.
If you took the time to write a list of your favourite media items from over your life, you would easily hit 100 and feel pretty strong about #100 too. To put it in context, that’s less than 1 per month, over 20 years.

You know anti-heros aren’t villains… They come on a spectrum. Hans Solo, and Humphrey Boguart in Casa Blanca were also anti-heros.
Nothing wrong with anit-heros.

The shows and media you enjoy is who you are. Get anyone’s top 100 and you will know a lot more about them than you could with a hour conversation.

You don’t know shit about my media consumption so stick to things you do know about.
I can’t even do a top 2. What am I?
Indecisive.
… that or you have somehow only seen 2 movies.
Giving up too easily. Surely you’ve watched more than 2 movies, or series, or books, or YouTube channels, or video or board games…
