🦉A Fierce Great Horned Owl ❤️
This Great Horned Owl (GHO) found herself in quite a predicament when she managed to get into a chicken coop and couldn’t find her way back out. The finder reached out to her friend Leigh, one of our Capture & Transport permitted volunteers, for help. During the rescue, it became clear that the owl had a serious eye injury.
According to Leigh, she was the most fierce Great Horned Owl she had ever captured! That feisty spirit would certainly come in handy on the road ahead.
The owl was transported to Dawn, a licensed vet tech and sub-permittee of Tamarack Wildlife Center (TWC), for immediate care. Her journey then included a trip to Humane Animal Rescue of Pittsburgh (HAR) for surgical removal of the injured eye, followed by a return trip to Dawn to continue her recovery. After completing her antibiotics and passing her flight exam, she was finally ready to go home!
Leigh and Dawn shared the honor of releasing her fairly close to where she was found, giving her the opportunity to return to familiar territory… And true to form, this fierce girl wasn’t about to cooperate with any photo or video plans! 😂 She quickly flew towards the treetops and disappeared from sight.
A huge thank you to Leigh, Dawn, TWC, and HAR for helping this determined owl get her second chance at freedom!

A pirate I was meant to be… Trim the sails and roam the sea…
I admit, I had to look up that reference - I can see our owl turning grumpy when the crew is singing instead of working :D
I’ve only recently learned about this classic series myself. It was always a game I had heard of, but never knew what it was, so I watched some playthroughs and it’s full of great gags and funny moments.
That song features Alan Young, famous voice actor of Scrooge McDuck.
I remember Alan Young from Mister Ed series and The Time Machine. But I don’t think I ever heard his real voice… German TV and cinema is huge on dubbing. Now I have to look for an episode in English :D
I thought about throwing Mr Ed out as a reference, but I didn’t know how old you were 😅
Not thaaaat old! 😂 I had to catch a rerun.
I’m kinda intrigued you guys got Mr Ed over there at all.
Successful shows are marketable. If they’re in English they will usually be picked up by TV around the globe.
I don’t know how German shows that were successful in Germany are doing internationally. They also get picked up, but somehow I can’t really see them attracting a larger audience in other countries.
Though streaming is changing things up. “Dark” did well.
My wife watched Dark without me, so I’ve still not gotten around to seeing that myself. The one that comes to mind for me is Barbarians, about Teutoberg Forest. That was picked up by streaming here too.
