Worse is arguable, but definitely not better

Worse is what they are doing. Republicans won in Iowa last election and they didn’t / couldn’t get rid of all trans healthcare, now this guy and his vile fellows are campaigning on actually getting rid of it this time, being even more anti-trans than the previous Republican government of Iowa.

So Iowa Republicans are pro trans? Or did some other arm of the government block it being worse?

Edit: just to clarify my frame of reference, this guy is pursuing a federal senate seat. So he won’t get a say in what Iowa does, but could impact at the Senate for EVERYONE.

Iowa Republicans were anti-trans, but didn’t bother with doing much about it because it would require effort to do something like completely defund trans healthcare. You can’t just declare something like that and make it so, even if everyone agrees on it. Endocrinology is tied up in non-trans healthcare so you’d have to figure out some complicated bill on what the ban actually entails, similar with GRS but that one might be easier to define a trans ban on. Democrats are promising (and the new Republicans) that they are going to try to get that done.

Basically, Iowa Republicans before the election were anti-trans, but didn’t go out of their way to devote real effort towards dismantling trans healthcare. Both parties had put off actually doing that so it can be used as a promise to gain popular support in this election.

The information I can find has Dems split on the issue, whereas Rs are staunchly anti-trans.

Not trying to argue, just trying to understand. It’s a shituation either way. Wish there were more progressive candidates in Iowa.

A minority of Democrats seem genuinely pro-trans (and only in places where that is popular), while the majority either doesn’t care or is transphobic. All Republicans are transphobic because they know it’d never be popular with their voter-base.

I don’t think most politicians are genuine about anything. But from the information that is gatherable, a majority of dems support trans rights.
