Here is a tracker for various candidates. We actually did pretty solid when you look at results across different levels of gov. I know it’s sad losing some more national facing races, but these state and local gov results are important for building up our base of support too. We also got a lot of new members this year, especially after each election, so between having more people to canvas and stuff and some footholds into local politics, things should hopefully only improve from here.
That looks great, and I am very happy for you! It is a huge success! But people here on Lemmy are celebrating like the majority of the democratic party are progressives, which they’re simply not. It’s important to keep sight of what is actually happening, because if people keep being told that the democratic party is practically run by progressives now, progressives are going to get all the shit when nothing changes for the better.
Yeah 100%. This is the starting line, not the finish line. We have so long to go.
In particular my area didn’t have much success, which was pretty sad, but with the influx of new members this year we’ve been making plans to build up our capacity to get members to run for local offices, so hopefully that goes somewhere. Not sure if I’m going to be personally running for anything because I’m a socially awkward nervous wreck, but I’m at least gonna be supporting the people who do step up.
What also gives me a tiny bit of hope is that it seems like even the centrists have leaned somewhat into populist rhetoric in some places. I don’t expect them to follow through on any of that, but it proves the point that this is what people are looking for and if we can get enough people and organizing infrastructure to take advantage of that next time, we have a good shot at winning some more.
I’d definitely encourage people to look into DSA chapters or other orgs in their area to join up with. I’m still a bit iffy on electoralism’s efficacy, but participating in the process has been helping my mental state a lot and they don’t just do electoral politics either.
DNC have had 48 or less senate seats since the 2014 elections, currently 45 until January, so yes I agree they have yet to achieve much recently, but no I reject the claim that they haven’t voted progressively.
Unfortunately you’re fighting the terminally online lefties who think the dems aren’t doing enough while the majority of our government has been Republican for the past 8 years, voted in by the American people. Apparently because trump did a lot while having all 3 branches and 80% of the Supreme court, that means Biden should’ve also done far more than he did while having a 5% lead in the house and -15% in the senate. Appreciate you doing it because I’m just tired of the revisionist history on this.

That base is very important, the difference between a real movement and a spoiler party is running candidates at all levels.

All democrats are progressive. Check out their policy platform:

Calling people like Hillary Clinton, Joe Biden, or Kamala Harris “progressive” is like calling McDonald’s “food.”
I mean, technically you’re right but… come on.
Kamala Harris had Libertarians screeching about her proposed unrealized gains tax for amounts over a million dollars:
Link to a right moron frothing at the mouth about her taxing the rich <–
By far most democrats aren’t voting progressively, so i don’t care what they tell you they want, when they don’t actually try to achieve anything.

Nice, I’m glad they put the effort into making this tracker.
