    This makes no sense. Japan was on the Allies side during WWI. As was Italy, although that’s not relevant here in the particular narrative spun visually by this map.

      It doesn’t have to make sense, it’s propaganda. The aim is to change opinions.

      That said, the logic may have been looking at the Japanese culture at the time which did identify with the concept of expansion, which crystallized further with Hirohito.

        That’s a good point. And it’s fascinating, I guess I can’t quite wrap my head around the outlandish scenario depicted by this map at that particular time. Like a q-anon equivalent from a century ago, maybe. Time has only made this map more ridiculous now than it was for sane, reasonable people back then.
