I thought this was a great start to the season.
Who even knows what they are agreeing to in the service agreements? I have had lawyer people tell me they agree to them without reading as well because anything out of the ordinary there would probably be a class action lawsuit or something but in the episode the lawyers all think it is pretty air tight.
And then being able to deepfake stuff that quickly. That would cause so many problems for our society. How are we going to live in a world where it is so difficult to prove what is even real.
I can’t even imagine how deep fakes are going to proliferate, challenge the very basic concept of reality, and the impact that will have socially. It’s happening soon and it’s going to be monumental.
The legal aspect …. All of that will be painful for Judicial systems around the world to grapple with. I don’t think we are really held to the terms and conditions on half of what we sign, since it’s not really informed consent but I may be wrong on that.
I thought this episode was a shaky start. I’ve noticed that black mirror tends to fall back onto existential horror/multiple or never ending consciousness which at first was very effective but it’s starting to become expected. I enjoyed the episode and I liked “our Joan” (fictive level 1?). Smart devious and creative. Salma Hayek was okay, she’s the same in every role but it works for her
