It is completely a promise. Seriously pretty upset they pulled the junk they’re pulling.

Between self emptying ink and updates that refuse third party ink, it’s frustrating. I see other people talking about how thier printers got bricked, its ridiculous.

This can’t be a sustainable business model. Eventually they’ll have extorted all current owners dry, and nobody will be buying new printers from them. It really makes me wonder what they were thinking.

That’s an interesting suggestion. Honestly i didnt know these even existed until now.

Almost any printer brand is better than HP at this point. HPs ink situation is a rather recent development, even though they were sued for trying this before.

From what I understand they are catching people with a subscription and disabling thier ink in real time. I think this is a separate issue from the “security update” they rolled put on a larger scale. Not to mention how thier ink runs itself low after about 3 months so it can keep the printer head? from drying out. They make it next to impossible to find individual cartridges on thier website, so you almost have to sign up for a subscription…either way they’ve got you. It’s horrible.

I bought my printer a couple years ago and hardly ever use it. Even though an ink tank sounds like the best option, I’m not sure I would use it enough to justify the cost (but i also just looked it all up so…) But its probably not like it costs any less just to get ink into a HP, so it probably evens out.

Yeah I mean it’s not like they’re anything special. I have seen kits online they use to transfer the chips to new cartridges, but im too scared im gonna brick the damn thing if I try, haha.

Good to know they’re not that expensive, a brief browse and it makes it seem like a printer that does photos and scans and all that good stuff, is at least twice the cost of a typical printer, but like I said, I didn’t dive real deep.

I’m sure if I actually did my research I could find a good deal. And even then, like you said, it does seem like it would pay for itself pretty quickly.

Thanks! I learn something new everyday!
