Man I love it when dems finally admit that they’re wrong. It doesn’t happen often, but it is so sweet when it does.

One of Biden’s first actions after taking office in January 2021 was to issue a proclamation pledging that “no more American taxpayer dollars be diverted to construct a border wall” as well as a review of all resources that had already been committed.

The administration said Thursday’s action did not deviate from Biden’s proclamation because money that was allocated during Trump’s term in 2019 had to be spent now.

Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas said in a statement that there was “no new Administration policy with respect to border walls. From day one, this Administration has made clear that a border wall is not the answer.”

Mayorkas said the construction project was appropriated during the prior administration and the law requires the government to use the funds, with an announcement made earlier n the year. “We have repeatedly asked Congress to rescind this money but it has not done so and we are compelled to follow the law,” he said.

This is not a case of "dems finally admiting that they’re wrong. "

Joe Biden is a conservative/centrist. We’re you expecting something else?

The fuck are you talking about? Biden is left wing socially.

Barely. The rest of his politics are right wing.

In any case, he is a dem.

I want to point out that this is Lemmy, and the overton window is shifted here. That only certain north-western European countries are more left wing than America.

In any case, he is a dem.

The same applies to the democratic party. At best they act like centrists, at worst like right wingers depending on the issue.

There’s a reason why “how is the best case scenario Joe Biden” god spread around as a meme among leftists.

I want to point out that this is Lemmy, and the overton window is shifted here

I’m pretty sure that window was always left wing on Lemmy. The “original” instance to my understanding, lemmy.ml, is very left wing.

That only certain north-western European countries are more left wing than America.

That’s been the case for at least two centuries.

My point is, that dems are in fact left wing. It’s a subjective claim, to be sure, but when most of the world is to the right of America, and the leftmost major party of America falls inline with a lot of the left wing views, (like with transpeople and abortion), surely they’re left wing enough.

In the hyper right wing U.S., sure, but on an absolute scale not even close.

most of the world is to the right of America

                  Yeah, that’s not true.

I think you and I have fundementally different ideas of what is left and what is right. And fair enough, the terms are quite vague. Are we talking socially like with trans people, economically like with communism, both?

In any case, I think of America as center-left, with a lot of political diversity, and dems to the left of that median. Generally speaking of course.
