I actually switched to Linux because windows 10 shit the bed and reinstalling was too much of a pain. Like setting up gpos to make updating manual, removing the crap from the start menu and making search fast like windows 7, downloading every single program I need and going through the install for every one, all of that would have taken like a day. Instead I went fuck it and installed pop OS, took like 30 min to get it just right.

I have had to do less maintenance than windows with linux as well. That install lasted for 2 years until my motherboard died because old. The old install worked perfectly with the new mobo and CPU but I wanted to try Manjaro instead. I have not needed to troubleshoot anything with Manjaro yet and it’s been like 6 months.

updating gpu is just two clicks through geforce experience, if I even want new drivers. Start menu is just tiles with programs I choose to pin, what “crap” is there? Downloading programs takes you a day? You have a pentium or something? And why would it take you sooner to install them on linux?

On Linux the driver is on the kernel so I don’t need to do anything other than normal system updates to get a new version.

The start menu in Windows 10 is like full of useless crap by default, like some mobile game looking bullshit and newspaper articles. Also the search is awful by default, finding things online and folders even though I only use it to start applications quickly.

Mostly because you need to find the download for said program and go through the install wizard. With 30+ programs and drivers that adds up. With Linux I just searched for it in the app store and pressed install for each (With the bonus of nit needing to install drivers)

with windows updating is just 1 click, after notification pops up? i dont need it any easier

whatever mobile games i uninstalled them once years ago when windows 10 was installed

search in windows explorer is always the same idk no complaints there

install wizard gives me option like install location and components i want, choices are good no? linux is faster aka it doesnt let u choose?

They massively broke search in windows 10, it worked fine in 7 and 8 but is slow and will likely return wrong results starting with 10. For example if I want the registry editor I’ll press the window key and type ‘reg’, the first result used to be the registry editor but when I last used it the top result was a folder resulting in opening that folder when pressing enter. You can revert how search functions with a 3th party tool which is what I always ended up doing, I think it was called classic shell but it was years ago.

In Linux you can compile it for yourself if you are so inclined, you can change literally anything then. I have never needed to change the install location for applications so it’s not really something I would prefer if the downside is I have to find the installer and go through the install wizard for each.

With Linux I can also install every single application I need with a simple single command and move over the home folder if I need a new install for any reason and everything is like before, making a fresh install take like 10 minutes.

just typed reg first result is registry editor

i do not want to change literally everything in os and break stuff registry is too much already

install every single application I need with a simple single command

double click is much easier commands are not a selling point

fresh install take like 10 minutes.

i installed once in 2016 this is a non issue i dont reinstall my os as a hobby?

Then I’m glad they finally fixed it. The 2 years I used Windows 10 it was completely broken. You kinda need the registry editor if you don’t have the pro edition, it’s the only way to make updates manual then.

Double click what? You can’t double click to install 30+ applications at once. I guess only if you create the installer but thats even more steps.

My windows install managed to shit itself badly enough at least one every year. The final one was when an update corrupted one database related to the start menu resulting in a BSOD when trying to open it. There is no way to regenerate that database apparently, only fix was a full reinstall.
