NASA’s Psyche mission aims to lift off October 12 — and be the first to explore a metal-rich asteroid that may be the exposed core of an early planetary building block.
tldr; linked to conclusion about metal rich hype. at the end cnn
it is hard to imagine such a dense state. I’ve handled large chunks of iron and lead and it seems unreal. probably near impossible to get a small sample off the surface. trying to remember G:mass:distance equations from physics. memory is not so good for details but G gets pretty large the closer you get. don’t plan on anything coming back besides radio from a trip to the surface.
The thought of unused cores of unformed planets is about as metal as they are. \m/
