Realistically speaking I think YouTube has been only tolerating ad blockers and will start rolling out new methods next year.

It’s already possible to block those with Sponsorblock.
Firefox already has a plugin called “Youtube Enhancements” which includes “sponsor block” – it skips ad embedded in the video.
It does that with user input though.
