The gene engineering technology they are using could, in just a few generations – a matter of months when it comes to mosquitoes – make every member of the species that transmits malaria here, the Anopheles coluzzii, effectively immune to the parasite.

We need a Final Solution to the mosquito question, not this hogwash

        Honestly we are. But we need a working ecosystem to survive. And it would be a far less interesting world without one.

        But that doesn’t answer why we are the main character. Yes there likely is intelligent life elsewhere in the universe but life is rare and on this planet it is extremely unlikely any other species will evolve to a higher level of intelligence. We are the main characters because we can look at the sky and ponder what is out there. We are the main characters because we witness the world and the universe and can pass that down to future generations. We are the main characters because our sun and our earth will eventually die and if all the animals and plants have any chance of continuations, it will be humans who can make that possible.

        But only if we don’t fuck it up.
