My dad has a pair of magpies that visit his garden everyday. Not sure how long I’ll be living with him (final stages of buying a house), I left them some nuts last time I was there but will definitely make it a regular habit, thanks for the tip :)
I’ve heard in some places you can just capture starlings and take them home because they are invasive. It’s tempting after seeing the video of one talking and making r2d2 sounds…
They aren’t a protected species, no. This one was raised by my neighbour as the mother laid the nest inside the engine of a work vehicle he was using, so he took the flock home and began feeding them, the rest didn’t survive but this spicy little guy did. For some reason he really loved car rides so we’d take him in the car in the morning to drop me off at work. And the thing with starlings that’s funny is that you will get to know their particular voice and be able to pick it out of a tree of many chirping birds. He would yell outside in the tree for me to come outside.
Apparently the trick is to routinely drop food where they see you do it, and over time they’ll come to get used to you and bring you gifts!
I too would like a crowbro. I did have a starling bro for a while. That was a wild happening in my life.
Get you some peanuts and start crow feeding!

Here is my starling buddy for your inspiration:
Ahhh very sweet! Thanks for sharing this pic. It’s always a proud moment when something so much smaller trusts you like this.
