Adults are worse at passive learning than kids, but focused learning works just fine. You’re probably better off buying/pirating something like rosetta stone than you are watching sitcoms.
Rosetta Stone was fantastic for bulk learning. Highly recommended and in no way what you expect when you use it.
You need to combine it with some practical training though. Finding partner to talk to or emersion in the language is key. Alternately formal training at a school.
