When you need to drop off your tech devices for a repair, how confident are you that they won’t be snooped on?

CBC’s Marketplace took smartphones and laptops to repair stores across Ontario — including large chains Best Buy and Mobile Klinik — and found that in more than half of the documented cases, technicians accessed intimate photos and private information not relevant to the repair.

Marketplace dropped off devices at 20 stores, ranging from small independent shops to medium-sized chains to larger national chains, after installing monitoring software on the devices. In total, 16 stores were recorded. (At four stores, the tracking software didn’t log anything, or the stores didn’t appear to turn the devices on.)

Technicians at nine stores accessed private data, including one technician who not only viewed photos but copied them onto a USB key.

And your comment contains nothing at all. No sign of any sort of point. Just emotionally charged insults, presumably from your hurt ego. I think if the AUTO;TLDR bot ran on your comment, it would say, “I’m angry because you seem smart and you disagree with me. I am desperate to convince myself that you’re also emotional, because that is my only chance at not looking like a complete loser.”

Barely any reference to the preceding comments. It looks like something that a person like you can just copy-paste into any comment chain. In fact, I suggest you save it for the next time. If this sort of comment is something that you can feel good about right now, it’ll probably fit right in to any other “argument” you engage in, as well. You can even save yourself a lot of trouble and just lead with this comment. Let people know the caliber of person that they’re dealing with from the start.

On the other hand, despite how much you probably like your comment, I guess forgetting about the subject matter and resorting to pure insults as close as a person like you can get to conceding, so I’ll take it as such.

Once you’ve got a clear mind you should re-read the comments you’re replying to. The only anger is your own, the only emotion is your own, the only ego is your own.

Everyone else is just toying with you for amusement. It’s like watching a dog snapping at its own tail. You know you should probably help the poor soul out but at the same time you kinda want to see what happens.

The nice thing about valuing logic is that, when I think about things again, I almost always come to the same conclusions.

If you’re amused by this, I’m not sure what to say. I guess some people find it amusing to get embarrassed.

The smartest thing you’ve done in this thread was when you stopped replying earlier. I assumed that it meant you finally realized the situation. Conversely…

I’m trying to guess your motivations, so based on your history in this thread, where you assumed I was emotional and upset that people were disagreeing with me, I have to assume that you are still thinking emotionally. So, yes, this is a logical conclusion.

If you were a logical type, then there would be no issue. You’d just react logically. But you’re an emotional type. If you don’t like which emotions I am attributing your motivations to, then you should tell me which emotions you are feeling. That way, I won’t have to guess.
