U.S. President Joe Biden on Friday will sign an executive order designed to protect and expand access to contraception, after a Supreme Court ruling last year overturning the constitutional right to abortion raised fears that birth control could also face restrictions.
Sorry, what is your point? That it’s not enough?
I imagine the republicans are gnashing their teeth at this order.
Yep they’re really pushing the anti-abortion agenda hard leading up to the elections: https://apnews.com/article/evangelical-christians-abortion-trump-2024-primary-faf79a6938db554e18e378b84c286b71
Which you would hope in a civilised society would mean they don’t get in.
Unfortunately we’re a nation with a hate-porn masquerading as “News” problem :(
Right wing oligarchs have no problem throwing money hand over fist at propaganda outfits that bleed money, and meanwhile real journalists are being laid off and bought out constantly
Like, this crappy sea of misinformation is all just a downstream consequence of massive wealth inequality imo
Yes, I think this is likely to have zero impact on increasing healthcare services for people who need them, and I’m frustrated that the democratically elected government I pay taxes to thinks politely asking for-profit companies to help out is the way to solve public problems. My government should be the supreme authority in this country and I’m sick to death of them constantly cowering to accommodate rich assholes.
Republicans are constantly gnashing their teeth about stupid bullshit that has nothing to do with reality, so I don’t think that’s a very meaningful metric of success.
For whatever its worth to you, my way of dealing with this frustrating situation is to a) vote in Democratic primaries and try to get slightly less useless Democratic lawmakers, b) always always always vote for whoever the Democratic nominee is in general elections because the GOP is 100% fucked, c) write angry comments on social media about how fucking useless Democratic lawmakers are so maybe more people out there can realize we deserve better than what we’re getting.
