I’ve returned to Hearthstone after 5 years (I boycotted every blizzard game after their treatment of Blitzchung) wondering what the best way to be a FTP player is now?
Is Arena still the best use of gold?
How should I get gold now? I see that quests have all changed.
Any obvious ‘to dos’ I should be aware of?
It’s kind of a battle-pass situation now. Take a look at the meta decks and see what you might want to play (I recommend Vicious Syndicate’s Data Reaper report), then take a look at the pre-built decks in the shop. Depending on what’s available, you may be able to target cards you want to start building up your collection again.
As far as arena goes, I believe that still has the most potential to get a return on your investment. Whether that plays out for you or not depends on your skill and understanding of the meta since Arena cards rotate regularly.
You can get your monthly rank chest in a variety of game modes, now. If the Standard meta isn’t friendly to you, you might give Wild or Twist a shot.
That’s all I can think of right now. I don’t really know first hand what the new player experience is like right now, but if I remember right, you should be offered a ‘welcome back’ package that includes a pre-built deck. Some are probably better than others but I have no idea what they’re offering at the moment.

Yes I was offered a loaner Paladin deck which is basically Tier 1 minus 4 commons and 1 legendary which coincidentally I opened! I was very lucky, so I’ve made it to Plat 5 and may try for legend but not that much of a priority.

My arena performance isn’t great but I think I may be able to average 3 wins so I’m fine with that as long as I’m getting a pack at least.
Arena seems to take so long nowadays though, people are so careful on every turn like it’s game 12… I did two runs the other day and it seems way saltier than regular constructed…so many BM’s, literally had a person just afk when I had lethal so I had to wait for their timer to finish lol.
