Its called an analogy bud. It doesn’t mean the two things are identical, it means they share similarities. Usually, a specific one. In this case, “selling your body”.

“equate” is the correct word but we still knew what they meant.
Just being a pedant, but equating two things is still a comparison.
It means to make a connection, not a comparison. Your connecting the concept of comparison to the concept of equating is equating however.
